New Orleans Saints 37 – 32 San Diego Chargers

Cracking game I thought this past weekend. The seats may have been pretty high up but we had a great view of the field. I'm so glad the rain held off, which I think had a lot to do with the amount of scoring - certainly beat the snoozefest of the Giants / Dolphins game last year. Both teams played really well I thought, though the Chargers shot themselves in the foot with the penalties. Too many silly penalties - longs ones too, like pass interference and unnecessary roughness. Still at least both teams aired it out - the Saints particularly had some great catches (i.e. Lance Moore's over the head TD in front of us in the corner of the endzone) So what did everyone else think? I think…

Party before NFL Game at Wembley

If you're going to be in London for the NFL game at Wembley this weekend between the New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers, you might want to check out a party on the Saturday night. Organised by our own assistant coach, Katie Taylor, the party will have an NFL theme. Katie emailed me to say: Next weekend is of course the game at Wembley and I know some of you are going. Just to say that the night before there is going to be an NFL themed party at a bar near Bond Street/ Regent Street that I am organising. It is at Bonds Bar and is downstairs in their cellar bar area. The website is: http://www.bondslondon.co.uk/ The aim of the do is for fans to have somewhere to…

Sharks Success in St Albans Friendly

Well done to all those that travelled to St. Albans on Sunday for friendlies against the Leicester Eagles, Kent Exiles and the St. Albans Kings. It was a good opportunity to give players valuable playing experience before the new season. Notably, Martyn Emmens got the 3 starts at QB and made some good plays. QB is one of the trickiest positions to get game experience and so I'm sure Martyn benefited greatly from the trip. Well done also to Scott Wilson, who in only his 2nd friendly tournament made good plays on both sides of the ball. The results on the day were: Chichester Sharks 68 - 6 Kent Exiles Leicester Eagles 20 - 14 St Albans Kings Leicester Eagles 26 - 20 Chichester Sharks St Albans Kings 51 -…

Former Shark Lifts Championship Trophy

[caption id="attachment_378" align="alignnone" width="405" caption="Matt Williams catches a pass in the BAFL1 Finals (photo: Graham Beardsley)"][/caption] Congratulations to Matt Williams, former Chichester Shark, on winning the British American Football League One championship with the Sussex Thunder. Last Saturday the Thunder topped the Redditch Arrows 20-18 in overtime, in the longest ever championship in British American Football history. With the teams so evenly matched, it took FOUR overtime periods to decide the winner! Matt caught several passes during the game, including a 20+ yard catch on a crucial 3rd and 10 play. As the Sussex Thunder season is over, Matt is likely to be joining us for some of our off-season training sessions. If  you want to read more about the Final, there is a great match report on the Sussex…

Breaking News: Bulls Win All Scottish Final

News just in.... The Kirkcaldy Bulls have won the inaugural BAFL Flag championship title,  beating the Carluke Cobras 48-13 in the finals. This is also the 6th year in a row they have won their Scottish league/Conference. Quite a remarkable feat. The final results are: Semi-Finals Coventry Jets 30-38 Kirkcaldy Bulls Carluke Cobras 19-13 Leicester Eagles 3rd/4th Place Playoff Leicester Eagles v Coventry Jets National Championship Game Kirkcaldy Bulls 48 v 13 Carluke Cobras It's a shame we didn't make it to the finals this year, as I would have loved to see how we would match up with the top Scottish teams, but alas, it was not to be. 2009 starts on Sunday!

That's right, we've had a week off to get over the disappointment of no playoffs, so now its time to get back to business. As said in the comments after the tournament, the way the season ended left a bad taste in our mouths. I for one, don't want to experience that again, so I'm looking forward to training this Sunday so I can start preparing for the 2009 season. Anyone care to join me? Usual place, 10 a.m. sharp. The 2009 season motto...'Finish'.

Sharks Fall At Final Hurdle

It could have been oh so different. In a day where very little went our way, the Sharks lost to fellow playoff contenders, the Jets and Eagles and missed out on a trip to the semi-finals/finals. The day started badly when we heard that the Mildenhall Mayhem had decided to forfeit their remaining fixtures - gifting Leicester and Coventry two wins each - a killer considering we played the Mayhem earlier in the year and had narrowly lost. This put our rivals in a good position, not having to face the tough americans. The finals scores on the day were: Jets 58-34 Sharks Eagles 48-47 Sharks We just missed out in a tense final game against the Eagles. It wasn't any single play, we just didn't make enough plays on…
