Its a loooonnng way to Devon and back

Sorry for the delay in updating the site – its been a busy week.

For those of you not in the know we had a mixed result in Devon this past weekend – but there is a good upside too!

On the day we finished 2-2, with narrow losses against Voodoo and Leicester. We racked up some nice points against the Plymouth Admirals, but most importantly on the day, we beat the North Devon Dogs.

Why was that so important you may wonder? Well, the Sharks currently occupy the fourth spot in the qualification for the season ending Final Four. It would appear at the moment, that the Dogs are the only team that can realistically catch us. So beating them – and them finishing 1-3 on the day, further increases our lead over them.

Not that it was easy though. the Dogs played a very physical game Sunday and led 7-0 at halftime. We don’t have a great record at comebacks so it was great to see the team keep its heads up and come out fighting in the 2nd half. I still have the bruises from that game – especially from the knee in my tail bone (and yes, the ‘Devon Cramp’ did strike again!). I picked up the score on that drive but i don’t remember who got the second one as I was lying on my back on the sideline punching my calf muscle at the time.

Sadly there was no cameraman this time around so I don’t have the tape to give a write up for the site. Suffice to say, the team played well, with a lot of determination. The ball was spread around nicely on O and everyone mucked in on D.

Unfortunately we were again a little short on D players for the tournament (Matt being the only D starter), so well done to all who played and kept the oppositions’ scores low.

Here are all the scores:

EAGLES 14 v DOGS 0
SHARKS 32 v ADMIRALS 0
SHARKS 20 v DOGS 6
VOODOO 41 v ADMIRALS 6
EAGLES 39 v ADMIRALS 6
VOODOO 18 v SHARKS 14
EAGLES 14 v SHARKS 6
VOODOO 26 v DOGS 12
EAGLES 19 v VOODOO 14
DOGS 56 v ADMIRALS 0

One comment on the travel – I’m sooooooo glad we didn’t have the clapped out minibus for this drive, otherwise we’d still be driving now! 8 hours driving and 4 games back to back makes for a long day.

The next tournament is only a few weeks away, so see you all at training Sunday so we can prepare to put out two teams in Andover.

Sunday Drive to Devon

This Sunday sees the Sharks travel (for what will seem like an eternity) to Devon to play in the latest ESFL tournament hosted by the NorthDevon Dogs.

Due to numbers, we’ll only be travelling with a Sharks team this time, but hope to have the Thespians with us for next months tournament in Andover.

For the guys that are coming on Sunday, please be at the car park ready for a 7.00am departure. Its quite a drive so we need to leave on time.

See you all Sunday!

Video Highlights from Sharks vs Thespians

Here it is – the eagerly awaited video of the tournament game between the Sharks and Thespians. This isn’t the first time the two teams have faced off in competition but certainly the first caught on camera.

It was a good day in Westergate, even if the results didn’t always go the right way. Well done to all that played. Continued effort like in training this week, will only make us better teams.
